Program to be held on the land and online!
Description:
Judgments of a reactive and compulsive nature, both toward ourselves and toward others, figure very strongly in most of our lives. They can distort our perceptions, make relationships with others difficult, and undermine our work. In this daylong, we will examine what judgments are and how to work with them using mindfulness, “heart” practices, and inquiry, helping us to preserve the discernment often found in judgments while also working through their destructive aspects. We will also explore the ways in which we internalize the judgments of our society, particularly related to race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. Attendees will have the option of regular follow-up sessions to continue and deepen the learning.

Teachings are appropriate for health care professionals as well as the general public. This program will support healthcare providers with tools to cultivate awareness and emotional balance in their interactions with patients and colleagues. By learning to work with the judgmental mind with mindfulness, loving-kindness meditation, and inquiry, providers can better manage personal biases and emotional reactions, fostering more compassionate and effective care. Additionally, the program addresses being judgmental related to race, gender, and sexual orientation, enabling providers to navigate these dynamics with greater awareness and sensitivity in their practice. With these tools, providers will be better equipped to support their clients or patients by modeling nonjudgmental presence, teaching practical techniques for emotional regulation, and fostering a more inclusive and healing environment.
Learning Objectives for participating health care professionals-
At the end of the program, you will be better able to:
- Utilize mindfulness of judgments in ways that might be shared with clients;
- Describe perspectives on the nature of the judgmental mind, in ways that will help guide one’s practical work with both themselves and clients;
- Utilize techniques of loving-kindness meditation that might be shared with clients;
- Utilize the application of loving-kindness as an antidote to distress related to the arising of strong negative judgments of self or other.
Continuing Education content level: Intermediate
