Description:
Join us on this day of practice focused on reconnecting with the emotion of joy. During our time together, we will practice cultivating mindfulness, sympathetic joy, and lovingkindness to bring lightness and clarity to our lives in recovery. The day will include interactive and engaged practices as well as guided meditation instruction and Q&A.

Emphasis will be placed on mindful speech and mindful listening to promote interpersonal effectiveness and empathy. Core practices will include cultivating non-judgmental awareness and present-moment focus, which are critical for disrupting automatic patterns of thought and behavior. We will also examine the role of mindfulness in working with distressing emotions and supporting resilience and well-being.

Teachings are appropriate for health care professionals as well as the general public. This program supports health care providers working in addiction recovery by offering mindfulness-based practices that cultivate emotional regulation, resilience, and empathetic presence—essential qualities for supporting clients through the challenges of recovery. Through guided practices in sympathetic joy, lovingkindness, and mindful communication, providers can deepen their capacity to stay grounded and compassionate. As a result, they will be better equipped to help clients cultivate positive emotional states, disrupt reactive patterns, and build sustainable tools for healing and relapse prevention.

Learning Objectives for participating health care professionals-
At the end of the program, you will be better able to:

  • Define mindfulness and its key components in the context of addiction recovery, including non-judgmental awareness, present-moment focus, and the intentional cultivation of joy.
  • Explain to patients or clients how mindfulness supports recovery by increasing emotional awareness, reducing reactivity, and fostering resilience.
  • Describe how mindfulness-based practices can help clients skillfully work with distressing emotions and reconnect with positive emotional states such as joy.
  • Identify and model the core components of mindful speech and mindful listening to enhance therapeutic presence and support relational healing in recovery settings.
