Description:
This day of practicing Insight Meditation (vipassanā) is an invitation to develop and strengthen our capacity for mindfulness and friendliness. Practicing with a relaxed and kind attention to our present moment experience, we are able to more easily welcome all experience and reduce our reactivity. Direct experience of the present moment enables us to connect with ourselves more intimately, understand for ourselves what creates both suffering and happiness, and experience the freedom and ease that is our natural state.
Instructions for both sitting and walking meditation will be offered, along with time for questions. This day is designed both for those who haven’t yet attended a residential retreat and would like to experience a “mini retreat,” as well as for those with more retreat experience who just want to reconnect with their practice.

Sustained attention to present-moment experience is foundational in mindfulness practice, with a substantial evidence base supporting attentional control and emotion regulation. For clinicians, these capacities translate into greater steadiness of mind and reduced reactivity, both relevant to maintaining a stable, compassionate presence in clinical settings. This program guides participants through the foundations of Insight Meditation practice — mindfulness of breath and body, mindfulness of mental activity, and the relationship between present-moment awareness and the arising of suffering and happiness — providing experiential and conceptual grounding that can be incorporated in a professional setting.
Learning Objectives for participating health care professionals-
At the end of the program, participants will be better able to:
- Describe the foundations of Insight Meditation practice, including present-moment attention and nonjudgmental awareness, from both didactic and experiential perspectives.
- Utilize mindfulness of the breath and body to support sustained present-moment attention.
- Describe mindfulness of mental activity and explain how present-moment awareness relates to the arising of suffering and happiness.
