Program to be held on the land and online!

Description:
Everywhere we look, we are bombarded with messages that heighten our fear and sadness about the world. Joy is both a Factor of Enlightenment and one of the four Divine Abodes. More than ever, it is vital to understand the importance of joy as a central aspect of mindfulness practice. We need to remember how to stay connected to that place inside that makes life worth living. Our own cultivation of well-being and joy can become our gift to a troubled world.

This weekend workshop is based on James Baraz’s 5-month Awakening Joy course that thousands have taken since 2003. Through interactive experiential processes as well as periods of guided meditation, you will learn basic principles and other supportive practices to develop your natural capacity for well-being and happiness.

Teachings are appropriate for health care professionals as well as the general public. This program is designed to provide clinicians with practical tools to integrate mindfulness into their practice, with a focus on cultivating joy as a vital aspect of well-being. This weekend will include1 themes and practices that nurture resilience, deepen insight, and incline the mind toward greater balance and happiness. Drawing from key principles of positive psychology and contemplative practices, clinicians will explore a variety of modalities to support their clients in reconnecting with an inner sense of aliveness. Scientific research has shown that mindfulness-based approaches can reduce anxiety and depression while increasing overall well-being. By fostering joy within ourselves and those we serve, we contribute to a more compassionate and awakened world.

Learning Objectives for participating health care professionals-
At the end of the program you will be better able to:

  • Explain to patients or clients how to develop gratitude practices, such as developing a gratitude list, to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression;
  • Utilize and describe to patients or clients integrity practices, such as the Five Habits of Happiness, to align their actions with their highest values and heal past wounds;
  • Describe to patients or clients Letting Go practices and benefits of simplifying their lives—reducing material possessions and busy schedules—as a method to address attachment and decrease suffering;
  • Describe to patients and clients how to shift from “doing” mode to “being” mode, to reduce anxiety and increase emotional regulation;
  • Describe a practice to extend loving-kindness to others, helping patients or clients connect and experience well-being through relationships;
  • Describe to patients and clients how to create a personal “Bodhisattva Vow,” guiding them in aligning compassionate intentions with actions that serve both themselves and others.
