Description:
The Dharma of Kingian Nonviolence: Dr. King, Buddhist Thought, and Social Change in 2021

What is the role of Buddhist practitioners in the work of social change? What practices and frameworks can help us get off the cushion and into the streets in a way that aligns with the core teachings of the Buddha? And how can Buddhist practice support those of us already working for social change?

As the country celebrates Martin Luther King Day, we will explore these questions by learning from the legacy of Dr. King and the philosophy that was developed out of his teachings: Kingian Nonviolence.

In this interactive workshop—we will use presentations, guided meditations, small group discussions and interactive activities to explore these questions and more. What would Dr. King have thought about today’s movements? What is the role of nonviolence, and can it play a role in the liberation of all beings? What is the relationship between the teachings of the historical Buddha and Dr. King?

All are welcome! No one will be turned away for lack of funds as space allows. For more information, please email Registration@spiritrock.org.
