Open to Everyone

Program to be held on the land only

Description:
Everyone wants to be calm and peaceful. Our restlessness and agitation stem from an uncultivated mind, a reactive heart, and a lack of clear perception of the present moment. During this daylong retreat, we will train our hearts and minds to find a calm abiding in the present moment, awaken insight, and soften our hearts.

We will follow the Buddha’s teachings on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, being mindful and sensitive to our bodies, beginning with the sensations of breathing and expanding to include all other types of physical sensations. We will learn to feel pleasure more fully without trying to make it last and learn to more easily accommodate unpleasant experiences without being afraid of or reactive to them. We will also develop the skill of recognizing and working with our emotions while learning how to relate to our thoughts more kindly and skillfully rather than being so easily carried away by them.

Teachings are appropriate for health care professionals as well as the general public. Healthcare providers can benefit from this program by incorporating mindfulness techniques rooted in the Foundations of Mindfulness practices. By fostering attentiveness and sensitivity to the body, embracing both pleasant and unpleasant experiences without attachment or resistance, and developing the skill to recognize and relate wisely to emotions and thoughts, providers can enhance their ability to promote calm and peaceful states for themselves and their patients. This retreat offers a practical approach to addressing the root causes of restlessness and agitation through mindful awareness and loving engagement with mental and emotional states. Health care providers will be able to recognize and relate wisely to various experiences, including moods, emotions, thoughts, and images, providing valuable tools to promote mental well-being and resilience in their patients.

  • List at least 3 common patterns of thought and behavior that lead to restlessness, anxiety, and stress in daily life;
