The Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta: Foundations of Mindfulness Practice (SF1G22)
Sean Oakes, PhD
March 24 - April 21, 2022
Registration closes at 12:00 p.m. just prior to the fifth class on April 21, 2022.* A recording will be available following each class. If you would like access to the recordings, you must register by the deadline above.
Description:
The Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta contains the Buddha’s original instructions for the practice of mindfulness. Beginning with the stabilization of energy and attention, the text moves through meditations on breath and body to intimate exploration of the emotions and states of mind that shape our lives.
The Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta, or “The Foundations of Mindfulness,” is the traditional framework for Insight Meditation. In this beloved discourse, the Buddha invites us to walk “the direct path” to the end of suffering.
While beginners are welcome, this class will be most relevant for practitioners with some experience in meditation. Our focus will be on using the sutta as an ongoing resource for practice. The class is part of our study series, The Refuge of Dhamma: Exploring the Buddha’s Discourses, and includes an audio recording of the sutta, video introductions for each session, guided meditations, and supplemental materials.
Please Note: Though the classes in the series will build on each other, attendance at all classes is not required.
