Description:
As the earth calls our attention and old narratives dissolve around us, we are asked to navigate our lives differently. At an evolutionary threshold like this, the Dharma is a formidable anchor to keep us grounded. As our world is moving, we are forced to move with it.

We must begin by coming home to where we are. Through sensing our deep embeddedness in nature, we are learning to engage a regenerative intelligence beyond the intellect. By working with ancient and new ways of experiencing embodied existence, we are consciously re-rooting in the web of life, bringing about an expanded perception of who we are and opening us into our next steps on the path.

In this series we will explore our fundamental interrelation with the more-than-human world through reflections, chanting, guided meditations, movement, inquiry, and Q&A.

Class dates: This series consists of five consecutive Friday sessions: one daylong on June 21st (10:00am – 3:00pm PT) plus 4 two-hour classes June 28, July 5, July 12, and July 19 (9:30am – 11:30am PT).

Sliding Scale: Our sliding scale options for this program include financial support for our teachers. Please consider paying at the highest rate that you can afford: your generosity supports the teachers as well as Spirit Rock, staff, and your fellow practitioners.

Teachings are appropriate for health care professionals as well as the general public. This program is relevant for healthcare professionals through its emphasis on recovering attention and facing global life challenges from a grounded sense of awareness. The focus on mindfulness of the body through the elements offers a valuable tool for coming into contact with our world. By witnessing our vulnerability and connection with all of nature, this program encourages us to develop a healthy and balanced relationship with the planet. Healthcare providers can find relevance in reconnective practices, supported by a growing body of research, in recognizing the benefits of nature-based interventions for physical and mental health. The course offers practices of guided meditation, movement, and inquiry for fostering a deeper understanding of interrelatedness and promoting mindfulness, compassion, and wise action in our lives and work.

Learning Objectives for participating health care professionals-
At the end of the program, you will be better able to:

  • Describe one way to recover attention through guided meditations on experiencing the elements;
  • Describe and practice mindfulness of the body, building our capacity to allow and soothe anxiety;
  • Utilize one form of movement to awaken energy and balance;
  • Describe a way to practice compassion as a tool for softening the heart;
  • Apply interpersonal dialogue as an invitation towards reconnecting to our shared vulnerability with embodied awareness;
  • Identify one strategy of listening deeply to the natural world as a tool for opening and expanding perception;
  • Incorporate one practice for cultivating a feeling of belonging.
