Retreat to be held: in the Community Meditation Center.*

Description

“From my own experience, there is no difference between mindfulness and loving kindness. When you are fully loving, aren’t you also mindful? When you are mindful, is this not also the essence of love?” – Dipa Ma

This retreat will focus on integrating a sense of embodied warmth with an intuitive knowing by cultivating a relaxed and kind attention in all activities. We will pay particular attention to attitudes of mind—such as pushing away, leaning in, or spacing out—and the impacts of those mind states on one’s capacity to connect with lovingkindness and deep inner intuitive listening. As we develop this continuity of compassionate presence and discernment together we will cultivate our capacity to attune and listen to Citta, an intuitive mysterious knowing that arises simultaneously within moment to moment experience. Come with a beginner’s mind.

This retreat is suitable for both beginner and experienced meditators and is held in noble silence except for teacher-led Q&A, small groups, or other practice meetings. There will also be opportunities and instructions for outdoor practice.

*This retreat will be held concurrently with another, with all sessions located in the beautiful Community Meditation Center on the lower campus. It offers a unique opportunity to practice in a smaller, more intimate retreat environment.

Retreat Commuter Option

The retreat commuter option will only become available once the retreat is FULL with a waitlist. However, if your personal circumstances preclude you from attending a residential retreat (e.g. staying overnight), please reach out to us as we may be able to offer you a commuter spot sooner and we would be happy to have a conversation with you.

Prerequisite to Attend as a Commuter:
You must have attended at least one weeklong silent residential retreat (5-7 nights) in Insight (vipassanā) meditation PRIOR to attending this retreat.

What is a Retreat Commuter?
A retreat commuter is a practitioner who attends a full residential retreat, including all meals, but they are not provided with overnight accommodations. Instead practitioners stay in their own home or find local accommodations. A communal resting area is provided during the day while on campus for the retreat. The retreat commuter is expected to attend the entire retreat just like residential retreatants. Special reduced rates are listed below for retreat commuters.

If you have questions about being a retreat commuter, please email Registration@spiritrock.org

This continuing education program explores the integration of mindfulness and compassion practices as evidence-based methods to support clinician well-being, enhance therapeutic presence, and improve client care. Research has shown that mindfulness and lovingkindness meditation contribute to emotional regulation, decreased reactivity, and increased attunement in therapeutic relationships. Building on these findings, this program emphasizes cultivating a relaxed and kind attention that strengthens both self-compassion and clinical empathy.

Participants will examine how common mental patterns—such as avoidance, craving, or dissociation—affect their capacity to remain present and connected, and will learn practices for noticing and shifting these states. The program highlights the role of embodied awareness in fostering mindful listening and compassionate responsiveness, both in professional practice and in personal resilience. Experiential exercises, guided meditations, and structured reflection will provide clinicians with tools to deepen their own practice while directly supporting their clinical effectiveness.

Learning Objectives for participating health care professionals-
At the end of the program, you will be better able to:

  • Describe how mindfulness and compassion practices enhance emotional regulation and decrease reactivity, supporting both clinician well-being and therapeutic effectiveness.
  • Explain how awareness of habitual mental attitudes (e.g., avoidance, craving, dissociation) can impact therapeutic presence and client attunement.
  • Apply mindfulness and loving-kindness meditation techniques to strengthen clinician empathy, therapeutic alliance, and attuned listening.
  • Assess the role of embodied awareness and interoceptive practices in supporting clinician self-regulation and resilience.
  • Discuss how contemplative silence and reflective inquiry can deepen therapeutic presence, discernment, and insight in clinical practice.
