Description:
The Ānāpānasati Sutta (MN 118) contains the Buddha’s original instructions for the practice of mindfulness of breathing. This beautiful and encouraging text lays out an embodied, heart-centered approach to meditation that unifies samādhi and insight practices. Breath practice was the Buddha’s own favorite meditation method, and is a powerful, accessible form of practice that balances somatic and emotional energies, and helps calm restlessness and quiet the mind.

While beginners are welcome, this class will be most relevant for practitioners with some experience in meditation. Our focus will be on getting oriented to the sutta in order to use it as an ongoing resource for practice. The class is part of our ongoing Pāli Canon study series, The Refuge of Dhamma: Exploring the Buddha’s Discourses. Each class includes significant supplemental materials, guided meditations, and an expansive exploration and group discussion of the text.

Online Only: We are offering this program online via Zoom.

Class dates are: August 7, August 14, August 21, August 28, September 4; all classes are held on Thursday from 1:00pm – 3:00pm US Pacific Time.
