Jean Leonard
A meditator since 2003, primarily in the Theravāda and Chan Buddhist lineages, she deeply loves the brahmavihāras and Kuan Yin dharmas. Her practice has been nourished by many multi-year study programs including Spirit Rock’s Advanced Practitioner, Dedicated Practitioner, Heavenly Messengers, and Mindful Yoga and Meditation Programs, the Dharmapala Training through Sacred Mountain Saṅgha, and the Buddhist Ecochaplaincy Program through the Sati Center for Buddhist Studies.
Jean is a licensed psychologist, certified Mindful Self-Compassion teacher, and Brainspotting consultant specializing in trauma and grief and loss. In her mentoring and therapeutic work, she supports individuals through sacred accompaniment to meet life and themselves with more gentleness, grace, and good humor. She mentored in Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach’s MMTCP program, taught secular mindfulness in universities and to frontline healthcare workers, and leads retreats at the Rocky Mountain Ecodharma Retreat Center. Her teaching braids together the wisdom streams of Dharma, psychology, neuroscience, and embodiment.
She has a particular passion for nature practice, women’s saṅgha building, the embodiment of the precepts in daily life, and practice related to aging, illness, and dying. She lives on the unceded lands of the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute in Colorado and delights in pottery, poetry, her two cats, and soaking in the wisdom of elder trees.
