Janice Gates

Janice began practicing meditation and yoga while living in Asia in her twenties, setting her on a path that has informed her life and work ever since. She has been teaching the integration of meditation, mindfulness and embodied practice for over twenty-five years now, including at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, UC Berkeley, San Quentin Prison and in businesses and retreats around the globe. Her work as a teacher, mentor, coach and facilitator is influenced by her studies in somatic psychology, leadership and communication, some very wise teachers, 30+ years of practice and a good dose of humbling / heartbreaking / heart opening experiences along the way.

Janice is currently on the mentoring faculty of the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, is a mentor for Cloud Sangha (an emergent online mindfulness community) and has a private practice working with individuals. She is an ICF certified coach, has a masters degree in Organizational Leadership and is author of Yogini, the Power of Women in Yoga (2006). She lives in Marin county with her husband and teenage daughter.
