Alexander Karvelas

Dros is a fusion project by ethnomusicologist Alexander Karvelas that breathes futurity into tradition. Alexander specializes in traditional Greek music, while also drawing on over fifteen years of disciplined study of Middle Eastern and North Indian traditions, drawing out their points of historical and aesthetic convergence and building musical-cultural bridges across time, space, and memory. A strong synergy of tradition and imagination makes Dros equally at home in the worlds of global bass, downtempo and ecstatic dance music, as well as traditional acoustic performance settings. Across all of these diverse spaces the mission is the same; to move people’s bodies, hearts and spirits with the creative force of these profound musical traditions.
